Narrative composition is also found in illustrations to novellas, legends and other kinds of the lore of our land.

The building of such compositions rests on the accepted laws of composition. If this is an illustration to a legend or a novella, one should study the theme being illustrated. Care should also be given to the sketch: we look for what will be principal in the composition and what will be secondary.

In large narrative compositions it is important to work with colour, because, for all the limited colour range of Tavrian painting, certain difficulties arise with tonal decisions. In such cases it is better to make a colour study or a coloured sketch.
